undertone(2025)

So I did watch this alone in the dark and it did creep me out enough that I had to 1) switch on the light, 2) start to look away from the screen 3) start using my laptop 4) generally pay less and less attention as we got closer to the end and 5) watch two episodes of Girls to shake the bad vibes off. Ergo, take this review with a grain of salt as I clearly was not fully present.

As creepy and scary as this was, it was overly reliant on cheap shots and was not an intellectually stimulating thriller. The nursery songs, the creepy sound effects, the phone rings, and a bunch of general horror tropes. They are scary but just not interestingly so, otherwise I feel like I would have kept watching instead of withdrawing. It’s a cheap thrill that can be fun when watched in a group but I do not recommend solo viewing.
