Triangle of Sadness (2022)

★★★★

This is the first class satire after Parasite that moved me, made laugh, and made me go "you so clever" at the creators of the film multiple times and kept me glued to my seat over its long 147-minute runtime.

I asked myself - what makes this story fresh? What does this film do well that the likes Saltburn and The Menu and other Parasite wannabes fail? I think ultimate it's how well it integrates class issues with gender. Act 3 is a master piece, so eviscerating the way it mocks at the idea that you can establish a system of financial equality if you start over somehow, when our very bodies are commodified and valued unequally from the moment we’re born. I've learned that Östlund is a director who basically owns the gender satire genre. Imagine my excitement when I found out that this is considered to be far from his best work. I'm so excited to see Majeure

I didn't realize the Babygirl twink had been in something notable before Babygirl. If I'm being honest, I do see his appeal a lot more as a princess himbo deeply jealous of the perks the female sex gets to experience and so so eager to sell his body than a psycopath intern who engages in BDSM with his CEO. Very spoilable.

Masterpiece really. I was going to say that I can't believe I missed this gem in 2022, but actually I can because I really was a mess in much of 2022.
