Together (2025)

★★★★

I must put a public safety announcement out first: if you have an avoidant attachment style, do not watch this movie; if you have a friend with an avoidant attachment style who is about to watch this movie, stop them at all costs. This movie will likely push anyone avoidantly attached irreparably over the edge. For the sake of your/their own happiness and the health of this dating market that is already teetering on the edge, if you see something, do something.

Deeply unsettling yet mesmerizing on a soul level, Together is the scariest movie I’ve seen in a long time. In addition to being psychologically unnerving, this body horror is also full of jump scares. One of them did make me scream in the theater. I literally don’t remember the last time that happened.

It plays on our’s deepest fears about intimacy: being trapped, feeling unworthy, becoming codependent, changed beyond recognition, and worst of it all, realizing you did it all to yourself. I was once a boy trapped in the suburbs not knowing how to drive. The way he felt like such a baggage and inconvenience asking to be dropped off at the train station - I can only wish that on my enemies.

Dave Franco is a seriously underrated talent, and so, so hot. He can play the biggest loser in a story and still make you feel nothing for the put-together guy down the street that you are supposed want an affair with. Honestly, if I were to corporally merge with anyone, there are worse options.
