Pillion (2025)
(mild spoiler warning)
Dreamy, surreal, and hysterical, Pillion takes you on the steamiest romantic ride of your life, and then sits you down, ultimately uncoddling. More than anything it is a reminder that self-discovery often demands a lot of vulnerability and pain, especially in romance and sex. I came in with high expectations, and I have to say not all of them were met, but I would still recommend it to everyone.
The relationship depicted in this film is far, far from anything I’d personally enjoy, but I was still moved and felt fuzzy feelings whenever Ray would show an iota of concern for Colin. I tried to figure out what that’s about and it reminded me of Fleabag’s speech to Hot Priest in the confession booth:
>I want someone to tell me what to wear in the morning, every morning; someone to tell me what to eat, what music to listen to, what to buy tickets for, what to like, what to hate, what to rage about, what to joke about and not joke about, what to believe in, who to vote for, who to love and how to tell them
I think that’s Colin as well, and I think there’s a little bit of Colin in all of us.
My big complaint is that the prosthetic dick used in this film is too fake. They looked like rubbery rolling pins. The production crew need to consult The Pitt and get some realistic looking penises.
Also, the Asian grandma who looked like she was in her late 60s or 70s who came to watch this movie alone on a Thursday night at AMC Kabuki, who are you? If you see this please reach out I really would like to know your story - thanks
