Paddington in Peru (2024)
Paddington in Peru is occasionally entertaining, but altogether too bland to be engaging for most of its runtime. While in the world with talking bears, absurdist elements are inevitable and expected, their applications are still so poorly thought out that they feel jarring and contrived.
The ending of the movie seems to hint at some sort of identity reconciliation for Paddington, but then you realize that the whole idea came out of nowhere and therefore has no nuance. All the character B plots are even less compelling.
The brightest spots of the movie was Olivia Colman’s performance, which was consistently delightful. Every scene with her in it was funny and engaging. I’m reminded of how staggering the comedic talent of this woman is. Hope to see more of her in year.
