Fuze (2025)

★★★

We came to see hot men strip and do stunts and that is what we got. This film understood the assignment by having Aaron Taylor Johnson change his shirt within the first 2 minutes of the movie, followed up by him refusing to wear a helmet during an active bomb threat just to show his gorgeous hair. Even the trailers knew what we were here to do, showing us Jake Gyllenhaal, after whom it was Henry Cavill, after whom it was then Andrew Scott, covering a whole spectrum. This is what Gladiator 2 could have been if they weren’t so pretentious.

The highlight was of course a scene that was very integral to the plot: Aaron Taylor Johnson taking a shower and then taking a phone call afterwards wearing nothing but a towel. The lighting and cinematography here is top notch. Dialogue was superb, by which I mean there was none, or none that I remember because I was understandably distracted. Not that it mattered, because between the Northern England accent and the British military slang I only ever understood 70% of his lines at best anyway.

I was further pleasantly surprised to see that there is a plot, and that the plot even has a twist. The film kept tension (both narrative and sexual) well so that you didn’t just always want to get to the nudity. It’s a solid entertaining action thriller. Would I have come to see this without the male body whoring? Well, no. But I can say the same about Top Gun Maverick, and lots of people love that movie. So you know, I gotta be fair.

If anything could have made this better, it would probably be more nudity. They could be more creative about it too. Theo James has to use his shirt to make a tourniquet, or ATJ forgets to wear pants. Also, there could have been more body diversity. Rahim could have shown skin too. As long as you nail the tension, I hope the director understands that one doesn’t have to be jacked to be hot.
