28 Weeks Later (2007)

i watched this in preparation for 28 years later which i am watching tomorrow. halfway through i realized i may have watched this 4 years ago, but it was too similar to the first that i barely remembered it. 

i think there’s been so many zombie movie that it’s really difficult to stand out at this point. it’s passing entertainment value aside, nothing in this movie is particularly new. disappointingly it also didn’t invest enough in its characters for their deaths to feel impactful. the only moderately complicated character (the dad) was dead so early and everyone else felt like the same person. i have come to expected more from zombie movies with social commentaries after train to busan (and if that’s not fair because it came later, at least dawn of the dead). 

however, glad i watched to be reminded of the general tone of the franchise. i have heard great things about new one and im looking forward to having my expectations subverted.
